How’s flooding impact Memphis area ag?

This week I had a chance to write a couple of blog posts that didn’t go on my personal blog. They speak to the impact the flooding is having on agriculture specifically.

Today, social media friend & Memphis realtor Joe Spake posted something I wrote generally about the impact of flooding on ag in the Mid-South. I really appreciate Allen Helms taking time to chat with me. He and his wife Laura have long been friends as they were also Midtowners for a long time who loved cotton. And people in Midtown may be shocked to know just how many more of us there are!

Earlier in the week I visited with Bob Walker who you’ve seen several times too — I fondly think of him giving my niece Alicia her first harvest experience and I got to do something similar taking his girls out for their first convertible ride. Bob had a really tough year in 2010 with levees on his farm blowing due to flash flooding. He talked with me for the company blog about the on-farm recovery efforts he expected farmers in the Missouri Bootheel would face in the wake of the blown levees.

Finally, I’m impressed by a good friend who farms in Mississippi Patrick Swindoll who I met through some social media training I was doing with the Mississippi Farm Bureau. He and his wife Kim wrote a post on the lifetime high water of the Mississippi River and smaller rivers. Its posted to a new website called farmerbloggers.com which is a great resource on ag.

Today I hope to take my mom down to the river for mom’s day to see the water level. I hope to post photos that would include visit with 4 generations of a family we are very close to yesterday. I have lots more coming!
