The University of Memphis Celebrating 100 Years Leaves Me Wordless

This year we are celebrating the Centennial for the University of Memphis. When I say “we” I mean my family as well as the entire city. Although I don’t know that I had family there when the doors opened in 1912, my family has gone to this university for generations…. in fact, my grandmom was on this same quad in the 1920s. And now we have the fourth generation of women in our family attending college here. It started with my grandmom, then my mom went there, finally, I was the one to get a degree as both the others were unable to make it through the full four years. I went for my master’s in journalism and now my niece is finishing up her master’s in education. Yes, my family will celebrate the centennial as Alicia walks the stage! Seems clear to me there will be a lot of stories to tell and more photos to take. In the meantime, this is my Memphis.

Love the pics and what a great tradition to celebrate. I bet it’ll be a big moment for your niece. Not only will she walk the stage to graduate but she will be doing it for the 100 year celebration!!!! Can’t wait to hear all about it. And thanks for the update. I finally subscribed here so I don’t miss any of the fun!!! Have a nice weekend.

Thanks Susi! She’s been excited about the 100 years all year! I am pretty pumped for her as well! She lived with me when she first moved to Memphis, so I miss her like crazy, so the graduation party will be great fun for sure!
