BlackBerry Down & Learning to Type All Over Again

This week was a really busy one. Traveling and issuing several press releases for work meant lots of communications. That had to be the trigger for my long-time companion, the red BlackBerry pearl to go down. It was lost so I did what any rational person would do, borrowed someone else’s and called it.

There were repeated attempts to call it hoping I’d hear the ring but it was going straight to voice mail. First thought was the tower was overloaded since I was at a major farm show. Next came the thought that the battery was dead. I found it, put it on the charger & realized it was dead. Really dead. A new battery didn’t help so I spent 48 hours without a mobile phone. Oh the horror! And since the Pearl had two letters per key and the new one has a key per letter, I’m learning to type all over again. The good news is this Blackberry is a lot better than the one I used to have.

If you watch TV for a few minutes, you are almost certain to see an ad for the BlackBerry Torch. It has both a touch screen and a keyboard. Hope I get used to it soon.

Shaun Haney of RealAgriculture.com posted a review a little while ago… its what helped me decide to go with the Torch. Peter does a video interview on the topic on Shaun’s site.

FarmerTech Review – The Blackberry Torch – Peter Gredig

With the Blackberry Torch coming out in Canada very soon many smartphone using farmers are wondering they should be making the leap dater some of the struggles of the Storm and Storm 2. Even though touch screens are all the rage (think iphone) many people still like the idea of the actual keyboard. The concept of the Blackberry Torch is to give users the best of both worlds with a touch screen and the traditional keyboard that slides out the bottom of the phone (a slider).

Peter Gredig is an avid user of the Blackberry products and has been using a Torch for a month. Peter loves many of the Torch’s new features such as the operating system and the web browser. But with having said all that, will Peter give the Blackberry Torch his highest recommendation or will he suggest that you stick with your Bold or wait for the Torch gen 2 to hit the market?  We talked at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show.

My Blackberry is is acting up. Of course it’s out of warranty. Of course I have 10 months left on my contract. But i refuse to pay full price for a new phone so I might be incommunicado soon! I really want the Torch!

We’ll see how well it works out. I’m lucky enough to have a company Blackberry. The iPad though is mine.

I was the unproud owner of a Blackberry storm for a little less than 3 weeks when they first came out. It was horrid and I returned it (restocking fee and all – that’s how much I HATED that phone.) I now have the Palm Pre and I love it. Super easy to use and does everything. It looks very similar to the Torch with the slide out full keyboard, but it really does do everything (including be a mobile hotspot to run my laptop through when I can’t get WI-FI on the road.)
Hope you experience phone nirvana and have a phone that you’ll really like for the long term!

Wow! I have friends who have the Palm but our office is a Blackberry place so that’s where I will stay. I’ve heard great things about Droid but I think I’ll be good with this. At least for a while!

My brother loves his Droid. We tease him about his girlfriend as he’s never without her – er, it.:-D

I’m sure you’ll soon be accustomed to the Torch. I just got a Droid 2 this month and LOVE it! I still have a ton to learn though:)

One reason I haven’t upgraded from my Pearl is the whole, don’t wanna learn nothin new 🙂 other reason is my Mother In Law is on our phone plan/package and she has gobbled up a couple of our upgrades…. I really want a Torch -but don’t want to buy it out right!! I can not imagine You without yours for a full day!!! Are you getting use to it… Do you think the Torch is a good option?

I’m getting used to it, still slower than I was but that’s to be expected. I do like the touch screen but admit the regular keyboard is better for me on typing. I’m jazzed about how much easier it is to stay on top of stuff and the camera is A LOT better. So I can tweet better photos. (Of course harvest is behind us so that doesn’t seem to matter. LOL.)

I can relate to being without my BB for that long as it happened to me this August. I still had 29 days on the warranty, so it got replaced, but UGH! What a mess. I was hoping to get the Torch then, but looks like I can’t get another one until next August. 🙁 We are a BB shop, too. I hear great things about the Droid, as well. You’ll have to blog and update about it so your readers can get the scoop and maybe it will help some of us decide where to take the plunge!!

Got the car charger & otterbox for it this morning… I’m ready for travel!
