EyeCatching Sights & Sites of the Week (July 16-23, 2011)

What a week this has been!

St. Louis Trip Hot but Successful

heat is warping St. Louis

There were several things that caught my eye this week while I was in St. Louis….

The heat! Temperatures consistently far higher than man nor beast are prepared to deal with and yet all of us have just had to deal. I spent most of the week in St. Louis which was hotter than Memphis down river and yet had a few degrees break from the folks up river in places like Minneapolis. My good friend Jill Meisenheimer found this photo on the Facebook page of Westplex 100.7 FM that sums up how the weather was affecting all of us!

Agreement! But this week in St. Louis was fairly productive, sure I go there for work & I like to think I’m usually productive with it…. but it was newly productive on the relocation front. Finally all the pieces came together for me to make an offer on a house — that house really caught my eye! 😉 The counteroffer process went back & forth til finally agreement was made. And the same process happened with my house in Memphis. So in about a month, we will close!

Neon & People! With the excitement of progressing in my relo, I decided I should start meeting a few more people there and was able to join a travel meetup. Enjoyed the conversation, food and venue. It was at the local brewery in Maplewood — Schafly’s.

Memphis Always Catches My Eye

I forgot to take photos… but I must say that the rain that greeted me shortly after I returned to Memphis was a real eye-opener and a really needed rain too!  My lawn sure needed it!

Saturday night, I went to the Covington, TN local qualifying round of the Texaco Country Showdown because my cousin Lisa was one of the judges. She works with radio stations to get awesome music played. Not only was it a good chance to see Lisa & catch some music, I took it as an opportunity to hang out with my niece! The theater was awesome — check out the photo of the neon out front.

One of the other judges opened the night performing several songs. It was an artist I wasn’t familiar with named David Bradley (Twitter,Facebookwebsite). Really enjoyed a couple of the tunes he did…. “If You Can’t Make Money (Make Love)” which was a fun song and “Hard Time Moving On” is a moving number. I liked the tunes so much that I downloaded the album when I got home! You really should check the music out yourself and then don’t forget to call your local radio station to get them to play a bit…. that way you can can share it with others.

The contest was good fun too…. lots of good music played and my niece was able to con me into buying snacks and letting her have cake to celebrate the Ruffin Theater‘s 75th birthday!

PS — Yes, I should have known starting a series would eventually mean delayed posts. But I’m just going to live with the delay…. its still a weekend series. The night included folks from various parts of Tennessee (plus some) doing a couple of songs in the competition.

Haven’t heard of David Bradley before but I will have to check him out! I love finding “new to me” music and sharing it! Thanks for the heads up!

I agree! I love finding a new performer that has good tunes… can’t ever have too much good music!

I can’t imagine that kind of heat. Well, I was in 112 degrees once in August in LA, but I was young.
Mind you, I’m about to do California in August again. Maybe I’ll be reminded.

The heat has just been unbelievable and I think that picture of the arch pretty much says it all!
