During out recent trip to New York for Kazu’s 16th birthday trip, we had the unusual and incredible opportunity to go out on the water with my friend Gary. We motored out of Brooklyn, going past Coney Island, under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and across the wakes of ferries to see the Statue of Liberty & downtown Manhattan. The day was one of record heat in Manhattan, but we were sitting pretty on the water with a great breeze! AND the ability to change our view a bit to make the lighting better! Hope you enjoy the photos!

I know not everyone has friends with boats in NY, but there are ways to get great views from the water.

  • The Staten Island Ferry is the cheapest and used by most of the tourists I hosted during my New York years.
  • My last day as a New Yorker, friends and I made sure to take in a bit of tourist fun. One of the things we did was the three-hour Circle Line Cruise. I HIGHLY recommend it. You get great views of so many landmarks.
  • There are several other companies that do private charters of yachts, sailboats, etc but I have to say that sounds expensive. There are some that advertise cruises as well, since I haven’t used any of them, I hesitate to call them out.
